Are derma rollers safe to use at home
Derma Roller are almost everywhere. Now all beauty blogger and vloggers are talking about the dermaroller. The most important question to ask I guess is, Is a dermaroller safe? While I am no medical expert, this is what I learnt from my research online.
Dermaroller are safe if you know how to use them properly.
On the contrary dermaroller can cause damage to the skin and if you have acne prone skin they can cause breakouts.
The questions to keep in mind while using a dermaroller are:
- How to use a Derma Roller
- What type of Derma Roller to buy
- How often to use a Derma Roller and
- When to stop using it.
Are derma rollers effective
I did my research on the topic of whether dermarollers are effective and I found a couple of reviews which I really liked.
Why did I like this reviews?
That was because the same person give a follow-up review after a couple of months. and they showed what it’s done for them. From what I saw it is pretty effective but it takes time and patience and a lot of knowledge on how to use it properly.
How derma rollers work
The dermaroller kind of bruises the skin which triggers the body’s defense mechanism and it puts its attention on the area where you have used the dermaroller on. Collagen is produced which helps to fill any scars, dents et cetera. It takes time and the results might not be visible immediately. It is advisable to go slow and perform this once a month only. For most uses 0.5 mm Derma Roller can be used.
Results might be noticeable within a week. The skin might feel taught, shiny and fresh.
After 3 to 6 months you might find scars fading, dents in skin filling up.
What Types of Derma Rollers are available?
There are different types of Derma rollers. You can get in various sizes from 0.25 mm to 1.5 mm. 0.25 mm Derma Roller does not help with collagen production and will not work for wrinkles, fine lines or for Sunburn or acne scars et cetera.
The 0.25mm dermaroller is virtually painless and is used to increase the absorption of skin products. So if you would like a face serum to penetrate your skin well then you could use a. 25 mm Derma Roller.
Conversely do not use a Derma Roller for products which are carcinogenic, which can block your pores, which are full of chemicals. Why? Because then these harmful products will penetrate deep into your skin and we don’t want that.
Now if you are looking to get rid of skin discoloration, acne scars, wrinkles, sunburns then you should get 0.5 mm Derma Roller.
You can’t go wrong with a .5 mm Derma Roller. It pricks the skin a bit so it will hurt only if you are super sensitive.
Use the dermaroller on small parts of your face. Hold your skin tight and then use the dermaroller. Use firm strokes but not too hard. You need to be careful that you do not break these pins.
Risks
There are chances that these pins can break and be embedded into your skin. That is why you should be very careful when using the dermaroller. Don’t drop it on the floor this will break the pins.
Always make sure that the pins are not bent, have no rust. This is why it is recommended to use titanium derma Roller.
Are derma rollers good for acne
I do not have acne but as this is the most commonly asked questions I did some research and found that dermaroller might be good for acne scars. I found a couple of websites and finally came across this particular reference which has suggested this on 37 patients over either 4 settings or a couple of months till satisfactory results were obtained.
They had used the 1.5 mm Derma Rollers.
Caution: Don’t use a derma roller on a pimple, fresh or active acne, eczema
Note: Derma roller doesn’t get rid of acne. We are trying to minimize the acne scars, and those acne pits ( or holes).
Dermarollers with 1.5mm long needles were used and the endpoint for any treatment session was the presence of uniform bleeding points over the scarred area. In patients with deep-seated scarring, the skin was stretched in a perpendicular direction to the dermaroller movement so that the base of the scars could also be reached. Read article
The results showed a 72% positive response in skin condition. Deep tunnels and other complicated scars did not show any good results.
