786cosmetics has launched in India and I am reviewing their nail polishes. 786cosmetics nail polishes are certified by Kalamazoo Islamic Center (KIC) as halal-certified nail polishes. PETA has certified it as animal-free and vegan-friendly.
These nail polishes are wudu-friendly, this means that water passes through to the nails when you wash your hands. This means you can have these nail polishes on while performing your pre-prayer ablution.

My Experience
I received two nailpolishes for review. I had to place the order on their website using the coupon code they provided. The process was pretty straightforward. You select the nailpolish you want and add it to the cart.
At checkout you can apply the coupon code provided ( mine is below – scroll down).
The delivery …
In India, the product was delivered by courier delhivery. Their website mentions 2 – 7 days delivery and free shipping. I received the products within 3 days.
The nailpolishes were bubble-wrapped and in a cardboard box.
The application and how long does it last?
The nail polish simply glides on to the nails. There is no streaking, no clumps. It is very easy (especially for the newbies).
It dries very quickly. Not as soon as you start applying but…you apply and move on to the next nail… the first one dries up.
This is totally a must – so we can apply another coat and move on…
Yes, you are seeing it correclty.. I do have polish on the cuticle… but I already mentioned I am a novice.
But… have you noticed how the color pops? Its gorgeous…
So how long does it last?
Well, the website says 7 days. Meh… me I applied one coat. I washed dishes, mopped the floors…basically my hands were always wet…
Yet Still…
It lasted 4 days… Like what… It doesnt chip..or peel… it just kinds of wears off.. Its not that bad …and when I reapplied ( yes on the same nails without removing the nailpolish left behind).
It still looked gorgeous…
Will I purchase it again?
Yes it is a good buy.
Pros
The colors are good, I like the fact that it is easy to apply, it lasts, it dries quickly and most importantly it is halal and chemical-free.
Cons
The price for me… but then chemical-laden, nonhalal nail polishes are selling for way more…
Another con is that they are still launching more colors…so the website didn’t have a lot of them..but those on the site are just gorgeous…named after cities all around the world. You should check whether your city is listed 🙂

What are Vegan Nail Polishes?
Vegan nail polishes do not contain any animal derivatives, products, fish scales, colorants from insects, milk proteins, placenta…nothing.
These products are not tested on animals.
Some nail polishes claim to be vegan but they end up using one of these ingredients or others. They claim that these are required to either make the color pop or for the shimmer or for some other benefit.
If you notice any of these in the ingredients list, then my friend it is NOT vegan
- Guanine – This is added to nail polishes to get that shimmery color. It goes by other names as well such as natural pearl essence, CI 75170. Do you know this is obtained from fish scales? Vegan-friendly products do NOT use this but use aluminum particles or false pearls to get the same effect.
- Carmine – If your nail color has that intense red color, chances are it is has derived its color from dried crushed insects. Carmine goes by other names such as crimson lake, natural red 4 or CI 75470 and it is NOT vegan
- Keratin – Nails are made up of proteins, one of which is keratin. Now keratin is said to strengthen the nails. But did you know most of the keratin is sourced from pigs, cattle, horses, rabbits. It is definitely NOT vegan
Is Vegan Nail Polish Halal?
While halal nail polish can be vegan, vegan nail polish need not be halal. Halal nail polish should allow oxygen and water to penetrate through to the nails.
So do the wudu test and check for yourself whether your vegan nail polish fulfills these criteria to be halal nail polish.
Most people and beauty bloggers have shared the coffee filter tests to prove it is halal and wudu compliant. But these might not be a conclusive test.
The 786 cosmetics nail polishes have been tested as per ASTM D 3985 and ISO 15105-2 standards. These have been certified halal based on these tests. The theory behind these tests is this… water needs to pass through the nail polish film to the nail.
So they have a sub theory that if oxygen can pass through then hydrogen can piggyback and be carried through. Hence water can be carried through.
So the answer is not all vegan nail polishes are halal but 786 cosmetics nail polishes are vegan and halal certified.
Is Vegan Nail Polish Safe ( Non-toxic)?
Vegan nail polishes can be safe if toxic chemicals haven’t been sneaked in. There are chemicals added to nail polishes ( most) which include formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, harmful colorants, parabens, synthetic fragrances, resin, toluene, camphor, DBP, xylene or parabens.
These and many others are said to be required to make nail polishes stay longer, have the shine, for the color to pop.
But these are totally unsafe over prolonged use and pregnant women and kids can have health issues.
Is Vegan Nail Polish Breathable
Not all vegan nail polishes are breathable. The nail polish form an impregnable layer on the nails. This prevents water and oxygen to penetrate through to the nails.
While this is not particularly bad, it can cause some nail discoloration and some nail problems if you use nail color a lot.
786 cosmetics nail polishes are breathable, as oxygen passes through the nail color ( up to 2 coats).
If you want to be sure only apply one coat or max 2 coats. You can also apply one coat of nail color followed by one layer of topcoat.
How to remove Vegan Nail Polish
They can be removed using any nail polish remover. I would recommend using soy-based nail polish removers as these are non toxic and safe.
Vegan Nail Polish Safe for Pregnancy
Not necessarily. In my opinion, it is best to keep your nails free of color while pregnant. If you really want to apply color to ensure that the nail polish you are using is 11 free. This means that the known 11 toxic chemicals are not present.
